The Dextros were a collection of musicians in need of a band. On March 27, 1999, a show titled The Pork Grinder's Ball took place at The Flying Machine, a club in Lorain, Ohio. It was in support of a compilation album on which a community of artists contributed to tracks each.
The members of The Dextros were not members of any bands, so they created a super group to place the show.
