New page

'''Aspiration Blues''' is essentially a bluegrass song. It came from performing at an open mic night at the Smiling Skull Saloon in Athens, Ohio, in the fall of 1995 when I was a sophomore at Ohio University. Most of the performers were regulars playing bluegrass, which I honestly couldn't have named as the genre. Soon after playing that night, I wrote this song, which is essentially dedicated to the bar. I remember playing an open mic there in the winter quarter and telling the audience that the song was dedicated to them before playing it, but I don't remember it getting much of a response and feeling a bit let down because of it.
